Boat Rally for Kids with Cancer

Boat Rally for Kids with Cancer

At the fifth annual Boat Rally for Kids with Cancer Scavenger Cup held this year on July 28 and 29, The Rosseau Group helped raise almost $1million in donations for Sick Kids Hospital.

“We were really heartened to see how much the gala raised for children with cancer,” says Simon S. Mass, co-founder of The Rosseau Group (TRG) one of the event’s sponsors. “To see the whole Muskoka community coming together and raising so much money for SickKids Hospital just blew us away.”

“Not only was the event a feel-good community affair in support of a very good cause, it was also an incredibly fun two days”, Mass adds.

Starting with the Celebrity Draft Party Friday evening, boat teams and other participants got a chance to mingle with plenty of well-known sports and movie stars. Imagine having fun with Billy Baldwin (actor – Backdraft, Sliver, Gossip Girl), Alvin Williams (Toronto Raptors – NBA Alumni), Brad May (NHL Alumni – Stanley Cup Champion), Marty McSorley (NHL Alumni – Stanley Cup Champion), Dale Hawerchuk (Hockey Hall of Famer), Heather Moyse (Olympic Gold Medalist), Brad Smith (host – Chopped / former Bachelor Canada), Donovan Carter (actor -Ballers), Jason George (actor – Gray’s Anatomy), John O’Hurley (actor – Seinfeld), Leo Stakos (host – Fish TV), Lyndsy Fonseca (actor – Nikita, How I Met Your Mother), Shantel VanSanten (actor – Shooter, The Flash, One Tree Hill) and Pooch Hall (actor – Ray Donovan).

Saturday’s festivities began with a Start Your Engines Brunch, immediately followed by the boat rally. Teams – including those made up of the celebrity participants — traveled across Lakes Joe and Rosseau picking up clues at each pit stop for the next destination that would lead them to the finish line. The whole TRG team was there, battling it out with the best of them, and TRG’s Legacy Cottages site was one of the more popular pit stops.

Saturday’s boat rally wrapped up with a gala dinner, live entertainment and live auction at which TRG not only made a generous donation, but encouraged others to likewise open their wallets. The result was a whopping $250,000 that will be used to finance two rooms/beds/treatment facilities  at Sick Kids. TRG also proudly supports the PhD Scholarship at St Michaels Hospital (SMH).

This year, the event raised almost $1M, which goes to support research, treatment and care of children’s cancer at SickKids with a portion going to Camp Oochigeas which provides kids with cancer with challenging, fun and enriching experiences.

In its five years, $3.5M has been raised by the Rally for Kids with Cancer Scavenger Cup in Toronto & Muskoka. Together with the Car Rally & Boat Rally that has run for the past nine years, a total of $20 million has been raised for SickKids.
